A couple walking ahead up a green forest path

We help clients achieve the lifestyle they want for themselves and their families.

A family cannot contemplate a successful financial journey, over multiple generations, without a financial plan. The number one fear for most people is outliving their money, and yet many people in the UK are not saving nearly enough for retirement.

Meaningful financial planning makes all the difference. It might be the reason you can retire today, or the extra years you can spend travelling. We’ll work with you to create and realise a financial plan that’s as individual as you are.

For families with more to plan for, our Private Client service brings everything you own into one plan, led by your own senior planner and support team, for a flat fee.

What we believe

The TRUTH about real financial planning

Control what matters.

See what else we believe

Planning is where the real value lies+

Financial planning is not a warm-up to investing. It is a professional service in its own right. It turns abstract wealth into a clear life strategy with priorities, actions and measurable progress.

Goals come first; trade-offs are the real work+

A plan starts with what we're trying to fund: lifestyle, family, freedom, and legacy. Every financial "yes" is a "no" to something else. Planning makes those choices explicit, intentional, and aligned.

A plan is a decision system+

Good planning replaces improvisation with rules, schedules, and triggers. When life or markets change, we follow a pre-determined framework rather than guessing or reacting under stress.

Cashflow is the daily engine+

Outcomes are driven by what we earn, spend, save, and protect, not by market headlines or forecasts. Planning turns the daily engine of wealth from accidental into intentional.

Architecture beats tactics+

The right tax wrappers, ownership structures, and sequencing often matter more than fund selection. Planning prevents silo decisions that clash in the real world.

Tax is a compounding lever+

Tax isn't admin. It's a compounding drag or advantage over decades. Planning coordinates allowances and timing to ensure we keep more of what we build.

Downside protection is part of the plan+

Insurance and contingency planning prevent one shock from undoing everything. Real planning is as much about defending what we have as it is about growing it.

The big transitions are where planning matters most+

Retirement, business exit, inheritance: these are not single decisions but complex sequences of tax, structure, timing, and emotion. Each can shape our family's wealth for decades.

Keeping wealth is reliant on managing behaviour+

Most underperformance is behavioural: panic, chasing, tinkering. Fear, greed, and impatience cost investors more than fees, taxes, and bad markets combined.

Objectivity is the hidden advantage+

We can't be objective about our own money. Emotion, attachment, and proximity cloud judgment. As your trusted external perspective, we provide needed accountability and challenge.

Planning should pay for itself in leaks avoided+

The easiest wins are often preventing errors and mistakes: overpaying tax, wrong risk level, poor sequencing, panic selling. Better decisions, accountability and objectivity compound too.

A plan must evolve with life+

As life, health, family, and priorities shift, a plan must be a living process of constant adjustment, not a document on a shelf. Good planning adapts and develops with time.

Powerful financial software

What does 'enough' look like?

If you don’t know what ‘enough’ looks like, you’ll never know whether you have it. And if you don’t know whether you have it, you’ll always live the life of someone who doesn’t, even if you do.

We analyse the resources available to you now and in the future, using state-of-the-art financial modelling software to help answer the expensive questions in life.

FCA research shows that average charges across the financial planning profession are 2.4% of the amount invested for initial advice and 0.8% per annum for ongoing advice (FCA Evaluation of RDR Report, December 2020). Independent research by The Langcat in 2020 showed the average all-in cost of advice, including products and investments, was 2.18% pa.

Our costs are typically lower when you look at the full picture, but we expect neither to be the cheapest nor the most expensive. What we do know is that our fees are fair, transparent and represent excellent value in pounds and pence for the advice and services we provide.

What we believe

The percentage model makes no sense. Someone with £2m shouldn't pay twice as much as someone with £1m for the same work. We wouldn't pay our accountant a percentage of our earnings.

Small percentages hide enormous costs. 1% per annum fees sound harmless. After portfolio costs, we often give up a quarter to a third of our returns. Over decades, compounding turns "small" into staggering.

Flat fees are the answer. When fees aren't linked to products, asset size, or activity, advice becomes clean. The focus shifts from gathering assets to improving outcomes, like any other professional service. There should never be financial incentive for a financial adviser to move client money from one product to another.

Value of advice

Why use a financial planner instead of DIY?

In Vanguard's Advisor's Alpha study, they estimate that good financial advisers can add approximately 3% in net returns annually by focusing on areas beyond just investment selection: behavioural coaching, asset allocation and rebalancing, tax efficiency, and spending and withdrawal strategies.

Cost-efficiency.

Time is our most precious resource, and it costs money. Every hour spent trying to master financial planning carries an opportunity cost. Partnering with a planner frees your time for what matters most.

Competence.

Would you DIY surgery? We're financial specialists with years of experience. Mistakes and missed opportunities can be extremely costly, and you don't know what you don't know.

Confidence.

We simplify complex decisions and act as coaches, addressing emotional tendencies, biases and stress: a trusted sounding board keeping your plan on track.

Clarity.

Clarity begins with organising your finances and developing a tailored plan, with regular reviews adapting it to changing circumstances or legislation.

Continuity.

We plan for the entire family unit, creating a multigenerational plan that integrates legacy goals and secures your long-term aspirations.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions.

Straight answers about how we work, what it costs, and how we can help you.

Still have questions? We’re here to help: ask us.

Are you regulated?+

Yes, Videre Financial Planning Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. You can find us on the FCA register. Firm reference number: 1016219.

Are you independent?+

Yes, we operate on a non-restricted basis and therefore have access to whole-of-market solutions.

Why do I need a financial planner?+

Financial planning is a process of finding the right balance between living for today and living for the future. Wealth is measured in time, relationships and experiences: money can be replaced, time is harder to come by. A good financial planner helps make sure your wealth works the way you want it to, so you can focus on living the life you want.

What are the risks of not having a plan?+

Most financial companies focus solely on money and financial management, but this can lead you in the wrong direction without the context of your life and the life you want. We look at your needs, environment, aspirations, vision, approach to risk, health and family, because all of this ultimately impacts your financial independence, decisions and your life.

What is Videre's investment philosophy?+

Our evidence-based approach harnesses the power of science to maximise the chances of successful investment outcomes. Conventional active investing focuses on frequently buying and selling in a speculative attempt to beat the market, usually resulting in higher risk, poor diversification and high costs. Our philosophy draws on Nobel Prize-winning research, with cost savings for clients that typically far exceed our annual fee.

Why do you charge flat fees, not a percentage?+

A percentage fee grows with your portfolio even when the work doesn’t, and it means clients with more money subsidise those with less for the same service. A flat fee removes that conflict entirely.

In our words: “When fees aren’t linked to products, asset size, or activity, advice becomes clean. The focus shifts from gathering assets to improving outcomes: like any other professional service.”

Is it an ongoing process or a one-off exercise?+

Financial planning with Videre includes regular updates and Forward Planning Meetings to ensure that your Plan is on track to deliver the most successful results.

How can I book an initial meeting?+

If you like the sound of how Videre can help you, fill in the contact form and we'll get back to you.

Do I have to pay for an initial meeting?+

No, the initial meeting is at our expense and usually lasts one hour.

What does the initial meeting entail?+

We'll review your situation, get acquainted, identify key issues, address any questions, and agree on next steps. You'll leave knowing that we've listened to your concerns and priorities, how we might be able to help you, and our initial and ongoing fees.

Every good plan starts with a conversation.

We’ll listen, tell you honestly whether we can help, and what it would cost.
